Former UC Irvine Professor Commits Arson and Threatens Massacre at Local High School

Former UC Irvine professor, Rainer Klaus Reinscheid, pled guilty on Tuesday to nine criminal counts of arson. According to authorities, Reinscheid set multiple fires and sent emails detailing plans to commit sexual assaults and massacre students and staff at local University High School. 49-year-old Reinscheid faces a prison sentence of up to 18 years. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for August 1, 2013.

Reinscheid reportedly sent emails to his wife regarding what he deemed “a good plan”. In his emails, Reinscheid described a detailed plan to commit sexual assaults, purchase guns, murder students and school officials, burn down University High School, and then kill himself. His defense attorney argued that these emails were part of a therapeutic exercise following the tragic suicide of Reinscheid’s son. (more…)
